Well, I can't say as I have lit the world on fire here...but...not to use excuses...timing is everything.
And maybe it isn't part of MPM...but it is a part of my life. My wonderful pup, Angel, left us on Monday afternoon to become an angel. She was 7 months old...a miniature Aussie...& sweet as can be...even for a pup so young!
I moved out into the country mid-August with my husband following in October. Angel girl was able to experience herding for the first time. At first she wasn't real thrilled...just couldn't truly understand the excitement of it all. Then, at some point, she started taking 'lessons' from my Border Collie, Remy, who is OBSESSED with herding! From that point on, she LOVED herding as much as Remy. She would follow Remy's every move, learning all she could from him. If he moved to the right, so did she. If he circled around, so did she. He was schooling her! And, if you couldn't find Remy, you couldn't find Angel, as the two were virtually inseperable when outdoors together. If you called one, they would both come, full speed ahead!!!
Last friday when my husband & I arrived home for the evening, they greeted us together as they had been out herding all afternoon. Angel seemed a bit down, but I figured she was just tired. She wouldn't eat...but there were times when that wasn't all that unusual. I brought her in the house & tried feeding her something special...she turned her nose up. Slightly worried, I kept her in for the night. Next day, she vomited a couple times but also ate a little. Ok, she should be better in no time...right??? In the afternoon it turned worse...bloody vomit, bloody diahrrhea. I knew these weren't good signs & all vets were closed Except the Emergency Clinic...it costs an arm & leg just to walk through there door! I babied her along as best I could, getting fluids down her, doing all I could to keep her hydrated & energy up. We chugged along really well until I left for work on Sunday afternoon. I left her care up to my husband and that's when she took a turn for the worse...vomiting everything. Dang it. First thing Monday morning was to the vet...unfortunately to no avail. By 1:00 that afternoon, she was gone. David had arrived home just before that & we both realized she wasn't well. Actually, I knew she was taking her last breaths. Sigh.
We both sat with her, in tears, silently saying our goodbyes. I let her know she didn't have to hang on anymore for me...it was ok to go. I hated it, but figured that was what she needed, all the while giving her Reiki to ease her transition.
When she first came to me as a 10 week old pup, I had named her Summer. I liked the name well at first...but the longer I called her that, the more it didn't seem to fit. Searching for another name, I came upon Angel. That fit. But thinking further, I concluded her name was actually Sum R Angels. It rang so true...she was my earth angel. Now I have to live without my earth angel, but have gained another Angel in heaven, watching over me. And I just know that when Remy goes out to herd those horses, that she is right along with him, herding & watching over him, too!
